Installed in 2005, these colorful outdoor terrazzo icons were part of a series of designs, which also include quotations in brick and mosaic murals, designed by Creative Design Resolutions, Inc. for Prince George's County Department of Public Works.

Largo Sidewalk Art at Largo Town Center Metro Station

Using their borderless terrazzo technique, Creative Form Liners, Inc. precast 30 terrazzo panels depicting symbols, people and places emblematic of Prince George's County for the Largo Metro Access Improvements project in Maryland. Creative Design Resolutions, Inc. supplied aesthetic designs and CFL reproduced the images in vibrant borderless terrazzo, color against color, with hairline registration. Once complete, CFL installed these pictorial terrazzo icons with their corresponding terrazzo borders and engraved brick quotations into two miles of sidewalk connecting Largo Town Center and the Morgan Boulevard Metro stations. CFL worked alongside the General Contractor that poured the concrete sidewalk around these precast terrazzo panels, to create a seamless integration of the outdoor terrazzo panels with the cast-in-place concrete. The brick pavers sweeping out from the framed icons provide anecdotal references relating to the icons. The brick pavers not only relay historical and factual information, but they also visually relate to the brick edging lining the sidewalks throughout much of Prince George's County.

CFL installed two mosaic murals at prominent intersections of this Largo Metro Access and Town Center location. These murals not only signify the intersections, but they become destination points for pedestrians. The large Garrett Augustus Morgan wall is situated at a bus stop along Morgan Boulevard. This large wall depicts Garrett Morgan and provides a brief biographical history of this notable inventor.

The Largo Town Center Sign and Compass Mosaic mark the entrance to the new shopping district of Largo. The colorful and highly detailed mosaic serves as a background for the signage on the large curved wall. The porcelain and glass tiles filling the entire corner plaza in front of the wall interact to form a large compass rosette that points north, south, east and west.

This permanent terrazzo, brick and mosaic installation has become a point of interest in Prince George's County and contributes to the County's initiative to create "livable communities" for their residents.
